Autumnwatch CaerlaverockQueens Hotel, September 17, 2015
BBC2’s Autumnwatch 2015 is heading to South West Scotland and will be broadcast live from Caerlaverock Wetland Centre near Dumfries. Autumnwatch Caerlaverock will begin airing for a week from 2nd November 2015. We at the ‘Queens’ are fortunate to be located a mere 30minute drive from the all year round wildlife and birdlife spotting that Caerlaverock has to offer!
Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is situated on the marshy banks of the Solway Firth and is home to entire population of 30,000 Svalbard barnacle geese throughout winter. The 1500 acre wetland site is managed by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT). The saltmarsh and freshwater wetlands surround an old farm which is now a cafe and visitor centre. Located in the shadow of Criffel, the highest hill in the area at 570m, Caerlaverock makes for a fantastic day-out whilst staying here, at The Queens Hotel, Lockerbie.
